All grading in Science is on a scale of 4,3.5,3,2,1. The following table explains what each number means. The word standard refers to the learning target, objective, goal or what students will be able to do. Example standard: By the end of the unit, students will be able to explain the roles of DNA and RNA in protein synthesis.
4 - Demonstrates thorough understanding of the standard.
3.5 Demonstrates understanding of the standard.
3 Demonstrates a developing understanding of the standard.
2 Demonstrates partial understanding of the standard.
1 Demonstrates minimal understanding of the standard.
If a student does not achieve a 4, there is always an opportunity to improve the performance on a standard. However, if a student does not achieve a 3, 3.5, or 4 on a standard, the student most likely must retake the assessment. Each assessment retake and required preparation for the retake will be arranged between the teacher and the student. The opportunity for retakes may be limited in the last two weeks of the semesters.
